Sika Deer

The Animal Behind The Hunt.

Sika deer were brought to Ireland in 1860 and have been rooted in Wicklow ever since. Compact, sharp-sensed and highly responsive to wind and pressure, they demand proper stalking craft - and reward it.

Sika were first brought to Ireland in 1860. Today they are established across mixed mountain, forestry, valley and lower-ground habitat where quiet movement, wind discipline and patience decide outcomes.

Compact Frames, Distinctive Heads
Sika stags carry branched antlers, commonly with up to four points per side. Their compact build and fast movement make shot opportunities brief and technical.

Smaller than our Native Deer
Smaller than our native Red deer and also smaller than Fallow, Sika require careful judgement in the field. Their scale, combined with dense cover and broken terrain, makes every shot a considered one.
